Safety

How we ensure the safety of our group while in the backcountry
Instructor-to-Student Ratio
- Each CMV Trip has at least 4 guides – that’s 1 guide for every 2 students
- This means more eyes and ears on the lookout for any potential hazards – prevention is the best medicine!
Highly Trained Instructors
- Every Crazy Mountain Ventures guide is a certified Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
- WFR certification requires a rigorous multi-day medical emergency response training in the context of the backcountry.
- We regularly practice and hold drills of these skills to ensure we are ready to respond to emergencies in the backcountry
Robust Communication Systems
- We are equipped with multiple layers of communication devices in the backcountry including short distance radios, long distance radios, satellite communication devices, and cellphones
- We have daily check-ins with our team members in the front country and have the capacity to get in contact with Search and Rescue if necessary.
Detailed Evacuation Protocols
- In the event that an injury or sickness cannot be treated in the field, we have protocols in place for a quick evacuation from the backcountry.
- The most likely form of evacuation is the unassisted evacuation where the CMV team evacuates the injured/ill participant from the field without the assistance of Search and Rescue.
- If Search and Rescue is necessary, the CMV team will notify them via a satellite communication device.
- Crazy Mountain Ventures has a coordinated plan with local Search and Rescue teams so that they are able to provide the most efficient rescue possible in case of an emergency.
