Empower young people to become confident, safe, and responsible outdoor leaders through education and skill development in the backcountry. To achieve our mission, we focus on teaching backcountry and leadership skills and building a connection with the land.
Through hands-on experiences in the backcountry, we aim to teach a comprehensive understanding of backcountry skills, including trip planning, navigation, emergency response, low-impact camping, cooking, and sleeping in the backcountry. These skills are the foundation of a strong leader in the backcountry.
Each participant will learn the skills necessary to work as a team to achieve common goals, assess risk, communicate effectively, make decisions, and support one another. In addition, each participant will assume a leadership role throughout their trip. Our goal is for participants to transfer the leadership and communication skills learned in the backcountry to all areas of life.
We believe that the best way for young people to gain an appreciation for the outdoors is by having personal experiences living in the backcountry. When separated from the modern comforts to which we have all grown accustomed, young people gain a deeper appreciation for the land and the world we live in. By providing a backcountry experience for the young people in our community, we aim to cultivate a love and appreciation for the land that makes Montana special.
Our goal is for every participant on a Crazy Mountain Ventures trip to come away with a deeper connection to the land, a sense of stewardship, and the self-confidence and skills necessary to plan their adventure in the backcountry!
